… Each layer of rich gestural imagery reacts to one another.

The Enamel on Double Plexiglass Pane Construction is a progression/development of my previous Enamel on Plexiglass (single panel) work. Whereas the single panel work deals with concepts of ‘reveal/conceal’, ‘public/private’, ‘exterior/interior’; the double panel constructions are even more intriguing in that they deal with an added dimension: that of encumbrances onto the self which influence our perception, our social stance. Concepts of reflection, deflection, memory, distortion, association and dissociation are the main concerns. How each layer of rich gestural imagery reacts to one another. The layering of the 2 panels, along with the light source, conducts an interplay of the lines, shapes and shadows. The intricacies of the line are explored as they relate to one another. The changes in the reflection occur with the ‘vagaries’ of the light source, just as the self changes and evolves as it responds to the varying externalities that encroach upon the self. There is a perception of reconciliation between the two layers as each responds to the other. The intermingling of the image from the top piece to the below piece adds to the wonder of the work, suggestive of a process in attaining a certain sentience. A sense of beauty, a notion of harmony are awakened.
